Recent social media posts by Simone Bailly, a voice actor from the original 2005 version of Need for Speed: Most Wanted, suggest that the popular open-world racing game is set for a remake. Bailly, who has had several TV appearances in shows like Stargate SG-1 and The L Word, played Officer Turf in the 2005 game developed by EA Vancouver. The hint of a remake for Need for Speed: Most Wanted was detected in Bailly's now-deleted Instagram and Twitter posts.
Based on Bailly's posts, it appears that the remake of Need for Speed: Most Wanted is set for a 2024 release. The actor also revealed that she would be reprising her role of Officer Turf, the partner of protagonist Sergeant Jonathan Cross. This suggests that the remake is of the 2005 EA Vancouver's original version and not Criterion Games' 2012 racing game of the same title, as the character of Officer Turf was only present in the former.
The original Need for Speed: Most Wanted, which was released in 2005, was a successful game that saw Sergeant Jonathan Cross, voiced by Dean McKenzie, leading a traffic officer task force to clamp down on Rockport city's illegal street racing. The player character, however, had a different agenda. As of now, it remains unclear whether Bailly and McKenzie have returned to the studio to record new dialogues or if the original lines will be reused in the remake.
The original game was well-received by critics and players alike, earning an 8/10 score from Eurogamer, who termed it as "near enough an essential purchase." The most recent entry in the Need for Speed franchise, Need for Speed Unbound, despite what seemed like a hasty release from EA, managed to earn a 'Recommended' badge from Martin Robinson, former editor-in-chief at Eurogamer.
While the hints dropped by Simone Bailly about a remake of Need for Speed: Most Wanted are exciting for fans of the franchise, official confirmation from EA is awaited. If the remake does come to fruition, it will be interesting to see if it manages to capture the thrill and excitement of the original, which has become a beloved classic in the racing game genre.
