Reviving Tradition: The Return of North and South American League Legends

The gaming community will soon see notable changes in the structure of regional League of Legends competitions. Recent updates from the company indicate that the previous event, the League of the Americas, "has been gradually replaced to usher in" back long-established competitions in North and South America.

Fans across North and South America have long voiced their concerns about the Championship of The Americas format. The plan now is to revive the familiar series – the Championship Series in North America and the Brazilian Championship in South America – starting in 2026, a move that many supporters have been looking forward to.

A recent company update explains the shift: the League of the Americas was introduced in 2025 with the aim of boosting regional competitiveness, creating more high-pressure matches, and fostering new innovations that the previous framework did not allow. This change was part of a broader adjustment to the global business plan, including the establishment of a revenue system designed to ensure long-term sustainability for the esports ecosystem.

The update highlighted two important observations:

  • Valuable insights were gained from the League of the Americas experience.
  • Communities expressed a deep connection to the legacy leagues and a desire to see these competitions restored in their true form.

The new approach will reintegrate key events. The international First Stand competition will now include the top team from the Championship Series as well as the best team from the Brazilian Championship. Additionally, the Mid-Season Invitational will showcase the two leading Championship Series squads alongside the top Brazilian Championship team, and the World Championship will feature three teams from the Championship Series and one from the Brazilian Championship.

A significant objective of the changes is to ensure that Latin American teams remain involved. As part of this plan, the LYON team will compete in the Championship Series as a partner roster, while Leviatán will join the Brazilian Championship as a partner team.

Further details about the return of these traditional leagues will be provided as plans continue to develop, with all changes set in motion ahead of the 2026 season beginning early next year.
