YouTube Unveils New AI Features to Transform Shorts Creation and Enhance Global Reach

In a significant update to its platform, YouTube is rolling out a series of innovative features that leverage artificial intelligence. During the recent Made on YouTube event, the company unveiled its new AI video system crafted to improve content generation for Shorts. This model, named Veo and developed by Google DeepMind, empowers creators to produce backgrounds and short six-second videos. Alongside this, new tools will assist creators in generating video concepts and titles.

YouTube is set to incorporate the Veo AI video generation model into Shorts later this year, as noted in a company blog post. This feature builds on the Dream Screens experiment launched in June, promising users the ability to create dynamic live video backgrounds. One illustrative use case shared by YouTube involved creators immersing themselves into a literary world, such as stepping into The Secret Garden, or visually expressing creative design ideas for followers. However, the capabilities of Veo extend beyond just background generation for Shorts creators.

The tool also facilitates the creation of six-second vertical videos, ideal for Shorts, addressing instances where a creator might lack certain footage necessary for an ideal video. Through this new capability, creators can generate supplementary content using AI and integrate it seamlessly into their Shorts. Importantly, any videos generated through this tool will carry a watermark from SynthID, Google's in-house AI labelling technology.

An additional feature being introduced is automatic dubbing, which aims to translate video voices into various languages, thereby enhancing the reach of localized creators on a global scale. Currently in testing with a select group, this feature will be rolled out to a broader audience in the forthcoming months. While the initiative highlights languages like Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Italian, the comprehensive list of languages supported remains unclear.

Moreover, creators will benefit from a new AI tool designed to streamline responses to numerous comments. In the section for comments within YouTube Studio app, creators will encounter AI-generated reply suggestions, allowing for more manageable audience engagement. These responses will align with the creator's unique style while offering customizability.

Additionally, YouTube is enhancing its Inspiration Tab within the YouTube Studio, enabling creators to leverage AI in brainstorming video concepts, titles, and thumbnails. Initially announced in August and previously available in beta, this feature is now accessible to a larger group of users, with its foundation powered by Gemini.
